SPINE BLOWING DECISIONS VOL. 26

August 20th 2010 13:22 BST — Spine Crew

This month's Spine Blowing Decisions is now live to stream or download from the Spine Radio Player. Somewhat ironically, Chairman Mao turned off his 'spacebox' when he sat down with How To Wreck a Nice Beach author Dave Tompkins to talk about the genesis of the vocoder. Even if you half expected to one day hear Mao serve up recordings of frogs next to the Bee Gees, a quick glance at the tracklist tells you that this is not your ordinary radio show. Bonus: Dave breaks down the broadcast.

steve – versatile? Stupid more like. 10 years ago if he would have done this, he would be considered a sellout nowadays it's hip hip. This is dumb

CULTURE CLASH

August 20th 2010 10:56 BST — Spine Crew

The Red Bull Music Academy have just announced another Culture Clash at The Roundhouse in October. Like last year's event it will feature four titans of British sound system culture, clashing 'in the round'. If you're struggling to picture that, watch this. We'll have some tickets up for grabs soon, so watch this space if you're interested.

Zaid – No offense to Don Letts but strange they brought him back. Some of his judging decisions last time were highly controversial.
Crank Zappa – I'm with you Zaid. To be honest I'm not quite sure how that guy stil gets asked to do anything. He's evidently a jumped up twerp with a hugely inflated and delusionall impression of his role in British music culture. RBMA do a lot of things right, but booking him isn't one of them.
Quills – Damn Crank. You're going in hard on Mr Letts!
Benny Blanco – Yawn. I agree with Zaid and with Crank. He actually said in the RBMA lecture that he was the first person to sample music and loop live in stage. Nice guy, but ego driven and lost. He sold weed to Bob Marley and had a camera during an important time in UK history. Thats it.
